With screenings beginning in the UK (and Ireland) on April 14th 2023, Crunchyroll, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, Wild Bunch International, and Eurozoom, today announced that it will be bringing Makoto Shinkai's eagerly awaited new movie, Suzume, to theatres around the world.

Shinkai's Suzume, created by CoMix Wave Films and STORY Inc., was distributed and marketed globally by TOHO until Crunchyroll purchased those rights from TOHO in May during Cannes (excluding Asia).

Suzume made its Japanese debut on November 11 and has since topped 5.6 million admissions. Suzume has also made 7.5 billion yen (about $55 million USD) and has been at the top of the Japanese box office for three weeks.

Makoto Shinkai, an accomplished creator, writer, and director, has long been a pioneer in the animation industry. His most recent works are Your Name (2016) and Weathering With You (2019). At the 47th annual Annie Awards, Weathering With You received four nominations, including best animated independent feature, and was chosen as Japan's entry for the best international feature film category of the 2020 Academy Awards.

Suzume is the tale of a young girl who explores numerous Japanese ruins while sealing doors that lead to calamity.
